Quitting smoking is one of the things that is difficult to do. Even though smokers already know the dangers of smoking and its bad effects for themselves and their families, smoking is still done.

However, that does not mean that this cannot be done. Check out the following tips

1. Find your reason

To be motivated, you need strong personal reasons to stop. For example to protect your family from cigarette smoke, avoid lung cancer, heart disease, or other conditions. Or to look and feel younger. Choose strong reasons so you can continue to be motivated.

2. Remember What Makes You Quit Smoking

If you start to falter and are tempted to smoke again, you must hurry back to remembering the reasons that stopped you smoking.

Is that because health is decreasing, so you can’t exercise more intensely before? Or because you are worried about the condition of your parents, children, or wife, who is always exposed to your cigarette smoke first?

Try to write down all the list of reasons and place the list where you can see clearly at any time – as a material for self-reflection. Motivating yourself can help you not be tempted to smoke again.

Remember, changes made on the basis of one’s own desire are the highest chances of success in the long run.

3. Avoid the trigger

Usually, smokers have certain times or situations that cause them to want to smoke. For example smoking after eating, or smoking while drinking coffee waiting for inspiration.

If these are things that easily trigger you back, then fill in the free time you normally use to smoke by doing other activities. If possible, avoid other smokers temporarily. Take for example, separate from your smoker friends to walk after lunch, play games on HP, or wash dirty dishes immediately after eating.

Tempted to return to smoking again can be caused by the smell of cigarette smoke around you. Clothes and other types of clothing can absorb the aroma of cigarettes. Wash all clothes, pants, wipes, jackets that smell of cigarette smoke. If you like smoking in a car, clean your car to be free from the rest of cigarette smoke and cigarette butts.

4. Change Smoking Time with Other Buses

Keeping yourself busy is one effective way to quit smoking. Looking for other activities aims to divert your mind from cigarette cravings. There are a number of things you can do to fill your free time rather than smoking, including:

  • Sports
  • Take a leisurely walk out of the house
  • Keep your hands busy, can play games on your mobile or computer
  • Go to the cinema or watch an exciting TV series
  • Spend time with friends and family who do not smoke
  • Go to dinner at your favorite non-smoking restaurant

When you are in the process of quitting smoking, there will always be a desire to put something in your mouth. The reason is, you are used to smoking cigarettes so that when you do not smoke you will feel strange if there is nothing in your mouth.

Therefore, you can replace cigarettes that you normally put in your mouth with sugar-free gum, or healthy snacks. One other unique way that can be done to overcome the difficulty of quitting smoking is by drinking cold water through a straw. Inhaling cold water through a straw will also release dopamine which is a brain chemical that can help alleviate a bad mood.

5. Routinely brush your teeth

Usually, smokers have a musty breath like cigarette smell. Therefore, one of the good things you get when trying to quit smoking is clean teeth and mouth breath that feels fresher especially when you brush your teeth frequently.

If you regularly brush your teeth and always have fresh breath, you will feel loved to rinse it again with a cigarette suction.

6. Think of the temptation as a mistake

Do not blame yourself too much if you desire to smoke or even smoke a cigarette. Everyone has been wrong, even when they are on the right path. This is normal.

However, make the moment as a reflection and to promise not to repeat the same mistake.

7. Give yourself a gift if it works

When you have succeeded in not smoking at all, it’s a good idea to reward yourself. For example, money that was only spent on buying cigarettes, you can set aside and collect. If totaled up to a year stop smoking, you can go on vacation or buy items that you like with the savings. You should celebrate freeing yourself from puffs of cigarette smoke.
